When I'm supporting expectant mums in Pregnancy Yoga or Antenatal Classes, I sense that their nervousness stems largely from never having experienced birth before. Which is totally understandable.
When you are preparing to do something for the first time you like to understand it, know what it may feel like, how to do it properly, you may even practice. But you can't practice giving birth!
The best tip I can give you whether you're expecting your first baby or not is to question everything!
Whilst you can't practice giving birth you can inform yourself. Knowledge is power.
Knowledge can ease anxiety, such as how likely is it that your worst fear will occur.
Knowledge can give you back control, empowering you to make the right decisions for you.
Knowledge helps you prepare, being taken by surprise can lead to overwhelm and panic.
Don't let the fear of being a burden, taking up someone's time or asking a stupid question stop you from getting the knowledge you need in order to set yourself up for a positive birth experience.
Capture your questions in your notes app and next time you're in with your midwife ask them!
It's your responsibility and you owe it to yourself and your baby.
If you'd like my support get in touch.
