Resisting the process of birth will hold you back

I’m often asked what I can do in labour to make it ‘easier’. The answer isn’t that straight forward unfortunately.

It’s more about a combination of action before labour to inform and prepare yourself, then when you’re in labour it’s about surrendering and birthing in an environment conducive to physiological birth.

A positive birth is less about doing but more about feeling.

Let’s consider the word Surrender for a moment. It brings up images of ‘giving up’ or ‘loosing’ to another power. But I want you to reframe that to see surrender as an act of empowerment.

You see, resisting the process of birth will make it much, much more uncomfortable, longer and could ultimately stop labour progressing.

A state of surrender allows your body to relax, release and open, it allows you to breathe effectively and maintain your oxygen supply to muscles and your baby, it allows the hormones needed for labour to progress to flow nicely.

Surrendering allows birth to happen as it’s designed.
